| Organizational StructureThe Central Ohio Fair Housing Association (COFHA) is a private, non-profit corporation, organized under the laws of the State of Ohio, and designated by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. COFHA is governed by a volunteer board of directors. Mission StatementThe mission of the Central Ohio Fair Housing Association (COFHA) is to eliminate housing discrimination and ensure equal housing opportunity for all people in our region, the State of Ohio, and nationally. Specifically, the Central Ohio Fair Housing Association seeks to eliminate housing discrimination against all persons because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, familial status, or any other characteristic protected under state or local laws. Vision StatementThe Central Ohio Fair Housing Association recognizes the importance of “home” as a component of the American dream. We envision a country free of housing discrimination where every individual, group and community enjoys equal housing opportunity and access in a bias-free and open housing market. We envision a country where integrated neighborhoods are the norm, and private and public sectors guarantee civil rights in an open and barrier-free community committed to healing the history of discrimination in America. Fair Housing Is Your RightEveryone who lives in America is protected from discrimination in housing, lending, home appraisal, insurance, and accessibility. Fair housing means you may freely choose a place to live without regard to your race, color, religion, sex, national origin or because you are disabled or have children in your family. Where we live affects how others view us and how we view ourselves. In our society, housing is connected to many critical aspects of life, it contributes to our feeling of success or failure. Where we live determines many things: what kind of education our children will have; what kinds of professional and social associations we will have in our community; what kinds of physical danger we will be exposed to; what kinds of values and expectations will be opened up to us; and what kinds of job opportunities will be nearby. |
